Greece has completed the delivery of a second batch of donated military equipment to the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF), continuing its defence assistance to Lebanon and its broader support for security and stability in the Eastern Mediterranean. The equipment was delivered to the Port of Beirut on Saturday, 29 August 2026, as part of an ongoing Greek initiative to strengthen the capabilities of the Lebanese Armed Forces. The latest shipment included 13 M113 Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) and 10 STEYR 680 M general-purpose military vehicles.

The vehicles were transported from Greece to Lebanon aboard the Hellenic Navy landing ship HS Rodos, which carried the equipment to Beirut for formal handover to the Lebanese authorities. Representing Greece during the delivery were the Consul of Greece in Beirut, Ignatios Papadimitriou, acting on behalf of the Greek Ambassador, the Greek Defence Attaché in Beirut, and the President of the Greek Community of Beirut, Panos Andriotis. Their presence reflected both the defence dimension of the initiative and the longstanding bilateral relations between Greece and Lebanon.

The latest shipment represents the second part of the specific Greek military donation to the Lebanese Armed Forces. The first batch was delivered on 15 January 2026 and consisted of an additional 13 M113 APCs, 10 STEYR 680 vehicles and associated spare parts. With the completion of the second delivery, Greece has therefore transferred a total of 26 M113 armoured personnel carriers and 20 STEYR 680 military vehicles to the Lebanese Armed Forces during 2026, in addition to spare parts provided with the initial shipment.

The M113 is a tracked armoured personnel carrier that has been operated by numerous armed forces worldwide for several decades and can perform a range of troop transport and battlefield support missions. The STEYR 680, meanwhile, is a military truck platform designed for general-purpose transport and logistical support duties. The transfer of the vehicles provides the Lebanese Armed Forces with additional equipment that can support mobility, personnel transportation and logistical requirements.

The donation forms part of Greece’s wider defence diplomacy activities and its continuing policy of supporting the Lebanese Armed Forces. Athens views the LAF as an important national institution contributing to Lebanon’s sovereignty, security and internal stability. Military relations between Greece and Lebanon have developed through bilateral contacts, defence cooperation and other forms of practical assistance. The latest transfer further demonstrates the continuing cooperation between the armed forces of the two countries and Greece’s commitment to supporting the operational capabilities of its Lebanese counterpart.

Beyond its immediate military value, the assistance also reflects Greece’s broader interest in promoting stability in Lebanon and the wider Eastern Mediterranean. By providing equipment directly to the Lebanese Armed Forces, Greece is contributing to efforts aimed at strengthening Lebanon’s national defence institutions and their ability to carry out their responsibilities. The completion of the second shipment underlines the continuing defence relationship between Athens and Beirut and represents another practical element of Greece’s support for Lebanon’s sovereignty, security and stability.
