Naval Group and the Egyptian Navy are extending their collaboration for in-service support of the fleet

Naval Group and the Egyptian Navy have renewed and extended their long-standing cooperation through the signing of a new five-year In-Service Support (ISS) contract, reinforcing their partnership with a strong focus on fleet availability, operational readiness, and long-term sustainability.

The renewed agreement, which extends a contract initially signed in 2019, covers the maintenance and support of seven major naval platforms supplied by Naval Group to the Egyptian Navy. These include the FREMM multi-mission frigate Tahya Misr, the two Egyptian Landing Helicopter Docks (E-LHDs) Gamal Abdel Nasser and Anwar El Sadat, as well as the four Gowind®-class corvettes El Fateh, Port Said, El Moez, and Al Ismailia.

Under the new contract, Naval Group will deploy teams of engineers and technicians to ensure high levels of vessel availability and operational performance throughout the contract period. The agreement reflects the Egyptian Navy’s confidence in Naval Group’s technical expertise and its ability to provide comprehensive lifecycle support for complex naval platforms.

The extension marks another milestone in a collaboration that began approximately a decade ago and underscores Naval Group’s long-term commitment to Egypt. In addition to sustaining fleet readiness, the agreement places strong emphasis on local capacity building. Naval Group will continue to expand its Egyptian workforce, creating new employment opportunities and strengthening its local engineering and technical teams.

Furthermore, discussions are underway to develop new partnerships with Egyptian suppliers and industrial stakeholders. These partnerships aim to increase local participation in ship maintenance and support activities, fostering the growth of Egypt’s naval industrial ecosystem and further enhancing self-reliance in fleet sustainment.

Commenting on the agreement, Pierre Éric Pommellet, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Naval Group, stated: “We are honoured to extend our cooperation with the Egyptian Navy and to continue our support in the maintenance and modernization of its fleet.”

Naval Group has maintained a continuous presence in Egypt for around ten years. During this period, the group has delivered a wide range of advanced naval platforms to the Egyptian Navy, including one FREMM frigate, two Mistral-class E-LHDs, and four Gowind® corvettes. Notably, three of the Gowind® corvettes were built locally in Egypt under a technology transfer programme, highlighting the depth of industrial cooperation between the two sides.

In 2018, Naval Group inaugurated its Egyptian subsidiary in Alexandria, further cementing its long-term local footprint. Since 2019, the company has been responsible for providing in-service support to the Egyptian Navy’s French-built fleet, ensuring continuous upgrades, technical assistance, and high operational standards.

As the original designer and builder of the FREMM, E-LHDs, and Gowind® corvettes, Naval Group possesses comprehensive expertise across the full lifecycle of these platforms. This enables the company to deliver integrated support solutions that maintain vessels in high readiness status while adapting to evolving operational requirements.

The renewed ISS agreement reflects the strategic nature of the Naval Group–Egyptian Navy partnership and highlights Egypt’s continued investment in maintaining a modern, capable, and highly operational naval force in the Eastern Mediterranean and Red Sea regions.
