Greece Signs €50 MillionNH90 Follow-On SupportContract

NHIndustries and the Hellenic Republic have further strengthened their long-standing cooperation with the signing of a follow-on support contract dedicated to Greece’s NH90 helicopter fleet, a move aimed at improving availability and long-term operational sustainability.

“This agreement represents a major milestone in ensuring the long-term success and performance of the NH90 in Greece,” said Axel Aloccio, President of NHIndustries, highlighting the strategic importance of sustained support for the platform.

The new contract, valued at €50 million, establishes a comprehensive support framework for the Hellenic Army’s NH90 Tactical Transport Helicopters (TTH) over a five-year period. It covers spare-parts provisioning, maintenance services, and a broad range of sustainment solutions designed to enhance fleet readiness. According to NHIndustries, the agreement will significantly improve the operational availability of Greece’s NH90s, which play a critical role in air mobility, special operations, and rapid response missions.

For the Hellenic Army, the contract addresses long-standing challenges related to helicopter availability and support continuity, ensuring predictable logistics, improved maintenance planning, and closer industrial cooperation with the original equipment manufacturer. The agreement also reinforces the strategic partnership between Greece and NHIndustries at a time when operational readiness and resilience have become key priorities across Europe.

The NH90 TTH is a modern, multi-role military helicopter designed to operate in demanding environments and across a wide mission spectrum. It provides armed forces with a single, interoperable platform capable of conducting troop and equipment transport, special operations insertion and extraction, medical evacuation, and combat search and rescue. Its design emphasizes flexibility, survivability, and interoperability with NATO forces.

NHIndustries—the world’s largest rotorcraft joint venture—is responsible for the design, production, and life-cycle support of the NH90, one of the most advanced military helicopters of its generation. The consortium brings together the expertise of Europe’s leading aerospace and defence companies: Airbus Helicopters (62.5%), Leonardo (32%), and GKN Fokker (5.5%), combining decades of experience in rotary-wing aircraft design and sustainment.

As Europe’s largest military helicopter program, the NH90 is distinguished by its full-composite airframe, spacious cabin, high power-to-weight ratio, and extensive mission-equipment options. The helicopter is equipped with a quadruplex fly-by-wire flight control system, which reduces pilot workload while enhancing flight safety and handling performance, particularly during complex missions and in adverse conditions.

The NH90 is available in two main variants: the NH90 TTH for land-based operations and the NH90 NFH (NATO Frigate Helicopter) for naval missions, including anti-submarine warfare, maritime surveillance, and search and rescue.  To date, 135 naval NH90s have been delivered to six nations, accumulating more than 90,000 flight hours across humanitarian, search and rescue, and military operations. Worldwide, more than 530 NH90 helicopters of both variants have been delivered and are operating in diverse climates and environments over land and sea.
