Advanced Greek Communication Systems for the Hellenic Navy

INTRACOM DEFENSE (IDE) announced that on Thursday, March 5, 2026, a contract was signed with the General Directorate for Defence Investments and Armaments (GDAEE) for the supply of advanced communication systems of Greek development and cutting-edge technology to support the operational requirements of the Hellenic Navy.

The agreement concerns the delivery of secure, high-speed voice and data communication systems, designed to enhance the Navy’s ability to maintain reliable and protected communications across its naval platforms.

At the core of the program is NAUTiCON (Naval Unified Tactical IP Communication Network), a highly flexible digital communication system developed by IDE.

NAUTiCON integrates both internal and external communications equipment of modern naval platforms into a unified architecture. The system can be configured using a distributed switching architecture, ensuring increased survivability in operational environments, while also allowing physical separation between “red” and “black” information processing to guarantee high levels of security.

The system has been specifically designed to support the integration of multiple communication technologies. It provides interfaces to a wide range of naval communication and information systems, including:

  • HF/VHF/UHF radio equipment
  • Cryptographic devices
  • Modem equipment
  • Tactical data links
  • Public announcement systems
  • Telephony networks
  • Satellite communications (SATCOM)
  • Message Handling Systems (MHS)
  • Shipboard LAN networks

NAUTiCON has been developed following a systems engineering approach, enabling simplified operation, streamlined installation, and a reduced number of Line Replaceable Units (LRUs). This design philosophy also supports an effective Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) concept, ensuring improved maintainability and long-term operational efficiency.

The adoption of advanced indigenous communication technologies such as NAUTiCON represents an important step in strengthening the digital capabilities and operational resilience of the Hellenic Navy, while also highlighting the role of Greek defence industry innovation in supporting national defence requirements.
