Cyprus and Greece have reaffirmed their close defence cooperation following a meeting in Nicosia between Cyprus\u2019 Minister of Defence and Greece\u2019s Minister of National Defence, Nikos Dendias<\/strong>. The meeting took place against the backdrop of rapidly evolving developments in the Middle East and growing security concerns in the Eastern Mediterranean.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Welcoming his Greek counterpart to the Ministry of Defence, the Cypriot minister described Greece as Cyprus\u2019 most important partner and strongest supporter in matters of national security. The two defence ministries, he noted, maintain extremely close coordination and remain in continuous consultation on security and defence issues affecting the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Cypriot government also expressed gratitude to Athens for the deployment of two Greek frigates and four F-16 fighter aircraft<\/strong>, which have been sent to reinforce Cyprus\u2019 defence posture in response to the current security environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n During the meeting, the Cypriot minister briefed Dendias on the latest developments related to national security. Particular attention was given to incidents that occurred the previous day involving unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
