
Israel Successfully Conducts Arrow Weapon System Launch Test
The Israeli Missile Defense Organization (IMDO), within the Directorate of Defense Research & Development (DDR&D) of the Israel Ministry of Defense (IMOD), in cooperation with the U.S. Missile Defense Agency (MDA), the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), has successfully conducted a planned launch test of the Arrow Weapon System as part of its ongoing multi-year development and modernization programme.
The test was carried out on Wednesday from a test site in central Israel and forms part of continued efforts to enhance the country’s long-range ballistic missile defence capabilities.
The Arrow Weapon System, comprising the Arrow 2 και Arrow 3 interceptors, has become a cornerstone of Israel’s strategic air and missile defence architecture. According to the Ministry of Defense, the system has intercepted numerous ballistic missile threats launched from Iran and Yemen over the past three years, including exo-atmospheric interceptions of ballistic missiles in space.
The latest trial was designed to evaluate new capabilities developed in response to evolving regional threats. Officials stated that lessons learned from recent combat operations have been incorporated into the system, together with advanced technologies, artificial intelligence applications and improved manufacturing processes.
The Arrow system represents the upper tier of Israel’s multi-layered air defence network, which also includes David’s Sling, Iron Dome, and the Iron Beam directed-energy weapon. The system integrates Green Pine και Super Green Pine early-warning radars, sophisticated command-and-control and fire-control systems, and long-range interceptors capable of engaging ballistic missiles at extreme altitudes and ranges.
Development of the Arrow programme is led by the Israel Ministry of Defense through IMDO in cooperation with the U.S. Missile Defense Agency. Israel Aerospace Industries serves as the prime contractor, with its Systems, Missiles & Space Group and ELTA Systems responsible for the interceptor and radar systems. Elbit Systems develops the fire-control system, while Tomer, Rafael Advanced Defense Systems and the U.S.-based STARK Aerospace contribute as major subcontractors.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said the successful test further demonstrated the strength of Israel’s defence industry and technological capabilities, noting that the Arrow system has repeatedly proven its operational effectiveness by protecting Israeli territory against ballistic missile attacks.
IMOD Director General Maj. Gen. (Res.) Amir Baram described the test as a key milestone in maintaining Israel’s technological superiority and highlighted ongoing efforts to increase interceptor production while integrating new capabilities developed during recent military operations.
IAI Chairman Boaz Levy emphasized that the Arrow system has become a critical strategic asset against threats posed by Iran and its regional proxies, while reinforcing Israel’s defence industrial base and attracting international interest from allied nations.
Head of the DDR&D Brig. Gen. (Res.) Dr. Daniel Gold said the successful trial marks another important step in strengthening Israel’s aerial defence capabilities by combining operational lessons with future-oriented technological innovation.
IAI President and CEO Guy Bar Lev noted that data collected during the test will support development of the next generation of ballistic missile defence technologies, while IMDO Director Moshe Patel highlighted the integration of artificial intelligence, automation and advanced manufacturing techniques into the evolving Arrow programme.
The successful launch test further reinforces Israel’s commitment to maintaining a technological edge in missile defence and ensuring the continued effectiveness of its multi-layered air defence system against current and future ballistic missile threats.
