ΕLVO and Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles Sign Strategic Partnership Agreement for Defence Production in Greece
ELVO and Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles (RMMV) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening Greece’s defence industrial base and expanding domestic military vehicle manufacturing capabilities.
The agreement establishes a framework for cooperation in the assembly of military trucks and the integration of logistical and advanced mission systems, including air defence superstructures, for the operational requirements of the Hellenic Armed Forces. The partnership will support vehicle solutions for the Hellenic Army, Navy and Air Force while reinforcing Greece’s broader defence autonomy objectives.
A central element of the cooperation involves the further expansion and reinforcement of ELVO’s production facilities in Thessaloniki. The initiative is expected to create new skilled employment opportunities, support local suppliers and contribute to the wider regional industrial ecosystem through long-term investment and technological development.
ELVO’s industrial complex in Sindos, Thessaloniki, remains one of the most important pillars of Greece’s defence manufacturing sector. The company operates facilities covering approximately 273,000 square metres, including 66,000 square metres of enclosed production, testing and storage infrastructure. The company maintains extensive capabilities in vehicle assembly, modernization, maintenance and support for military and special-purpose platforms.
The partnership also reflects ELVO’s ambition to expand its role both within the domestic market and internationally, leveraging its industrial base and cooperation with major international defence companies. ELVO is part of SK Group, a holding company active in multiple strategic industrial sectors.
RMMV contributes extensive experience in military logistics and tactical mobility platforms, with a portfolio ranging from militarized commercial vehicles to dedicated high-mobility military truck systems. The company’s vehicle families are available in multiple configurations from 4×4 to 10×10 and are designed to operate in demanding operational environments across a wide range of mission profiles.
According to ELVO General Manager Antonis Vitetzakis, the cooperation represents an important milestone both for ELVO and for Greece’s future defence industrial strategy. He emphasized that the combination of ELVO’s manufacturing infrastructure and local expertise with Rheinmetall’s advanced technologies and global experience creates a strong platform capable of delivering mission-ready systems for the Hellenic Armed Forces.
The agreement also positions Thessaloniki as an emerging regional hub for defence manufacturing, maintenance and innovation, supporting Greece’s efforts to expand indigenous industrial participation in future defence procurement programmes.
The partnership reflects the broader trend across Europe toward strengthening national defence-industrial resilience, increasing local production capabilities and developing closer cooperation between domestic industries and major international defence manufacturers.
